چکیده
Aphids are serious pests of many crops in agroecosystems and their biological control is focused on enhancing the performance specialized natural enemies aphids such as parasitoid wasps predators like ladybirds. However, ladybirds often attacked by own parasitoids fourth trophic level that can negatively affect ladybird and, hence, effectiveness agents. The biology ecology these has been less well explored. This study compared various life-history traits two closely related seven-spot ladybird, Coccinella septempunctata (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae): Oomyzus scaposus O. spiraculus (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae), which naturally co-occur eastern China facultatively gregarious koinobiont larval-pupal endoparasitoids beetles. They oviposit develop all four larval instars hosts but kill emerge from pupae. Both did not have a clear oviposition preference for any host instar, duration tended to increase first third instar hosts. Moreover, time was significantly longer than scaposus. Adult eclosion parasitized (ranging between 35 45%) sex ratios (85–90% female) were similar both species differ among instars. Brood sizes Egg-to-adult development shorter eclosing adults heavier those spiraculus. In species, decreased with at parasitism, instar-specific effects biomass differed species: developed second hosts, whereas decrease parasitism. females larger males. Our results show expression some vary depending parasitized, do point specific optimal each parasitoids. despite being related, there variability

Predation and searching efficiency of a ladybird beetle, Coccinella septempunctata Linnaeus in laboratory environment.
The predation and searching efficiency of fourth instar of predatory C. septempunctata at various densities of mustard aphid, Lipaphis erysimi (Kaltenbach) and predator was investigated under laboratory conditions. The feeding rate of predatory stage decreased at increased prey- and predator densities. Highest percent (92.80%) prey consumption was observed at initial prey density and lowest per...
متن کاملInfluence of ambient humidity on the attachment ability of ladybird beetles (Coccinella septempunctata)
Many insects possess adhesive foot pads, which enable them to scale smooth vertical surfaces. The function of these organs may be highly affected by environmental conditions. Ladybird beetles (Coccinellidae) possess dense tarsal soles of tenent setae, supplemented with an adhesive fluid. We studied the attachment ability of the seven-spotted ladybird beetle (Coccinella septempunctata) at differ...
متن کاملImpact of Ambient Humidity on Traction Forces in Ladybird Beetles (Coccinella septempunctata)
Many insects possess hairy adhesive foot pads, supplemented with a tarsal secretion, which allow them to securely and reversibly attach to various kinds of natural substrates, also under complex environmental conditions. Conditions such as ambient temperature and humidity have been shown to influence the attachment ability of the dry adhesive foot pads in spiders and geckos. For insects, howeve...
متن کاملToxic effects of hexaflumuron on the development of Coccinella septempunctata
Studying the toxic risk of pesticide exposure to ladybird beetles is important from an agronomical and ecological perspective since larval and adult ladybirds are dominant predators of herbivorous pest insects (e.g., aphids) in various crops in China. This article mainly deals with the long-term effects of a single application of the insect growth regulator hexaflumuron on Coccinella septempunc...
